Volunteers of Helensburgh Festive Lighting Charitable Trust attended a meeting to thank the Helensburgh Lions Club for their generous gift of £2000 towards the cost of this year’s annual Christmas Lights spectacle.
Each year, the community organisation has to raise £8,500 to fund the installation, repair and removal of the festive lights – and the latest donation has given them a much-needed boost.
The donation has helped to repair some of the oldest features in the display which include the three meter illuminations on Sinclair Street, from King Street to the Victoria Halls.
The lights were facing retirement because of the £100 cost of each part to repair the nine features that are held in stock.
A spokesperson from the group said: “The lights were purchased in 2010 when volunteers raised £25,000 from the community to restore a Christmas lights display in town.
“The Lions Club was one of the first donors to hand in their cheque for £500 and they have supported us ever since, helping to ensure that the display is funded annually.
“This year the elves have spent £2,500 on repairs and people have commented that the lights are much more colourful and attractive because of this investment and the work throughout the year to keep the stock up to date and ready to sparkle.
“Well done guys and thank you from the whole community for the terrific contribution you make to Helensburgh, hope you enjoy your lights.”
